Information

Mr. Tarrence A. Hughes is a native of South East Washington, DC. He is a proud alum of the famous Duke Ellington School of the Arts. Mr. Hughes completed his Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Virginia State University and earned a Master of Arts from Morgan State University. He is a proponent of historically black colleges and makes it his business to expose all his students to college life. Mr. Hughes has taught vocal music in Baltimore City Public Schools and DC Public Schools. In each district, he has directed award-winning choirs. Currently, he is Dean of Culture of 9th grade at Legacy College Preparatory in DC, where he is the choir/music teacher. He loves inspiring children through music and has mentored students who have eventually graduated from college and are productive citizens. Mr. Hughes is an accomplished performer in his own right, doing yearly concerts, and recitals, performing with the Baltimore Summer Opera Workshop, and the Opera Company of Philadelphia. He performs with his band, T Arnett with Top Shelf, around the DC metropolitan area. He is a member of The Alfred Street Baptist Church where he ministers with Caya Praise Team and the Royal Priesthood Choir. He is a lifetime member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and was pinned in the 100 Black Men Maryland Chapter. Mr. Hughes believes that mentorship and relationship building is crucial to building strong men.
