Lorenzo Russell currently serves as the Associate Superintendent for Prince George’s County School District, where he leads transformative initiatives aimed at improving leadership, instruction, and student outcomes. Previously, he served as an Area Superintendent for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, overseeing a high school network and driving systemic improvements in urban education.
Born and raised on the west side of Chicago, Lorenzo is a proud graduate of the Chicago Public School system, where he attended Chicago Public Schools for both elementary and high school education. He earned his undergraduate degree in Education at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois, and holds advanced degrees in Educational Leadership from Northeastern Illinois University, the University of Illinois-Chicago, and Northern Illinois University.
With over 26 years of experience as an urban school leader, Lorenzo has dedicated his career to addressing the unique challenges faced by students and educators in urban settings. As a former teacher and administrator in various roles, his work focuses on creating equitable learning environments that empower students and educators to overcome systemic barriers, develop confidence, and achieve their full potential.
Lorenzo’s philosophy is rooted in the belief that educators are the strongest advocates for their students. He is committed to instilling an unshakable belief in all children’s ability to succeed and become productive citizens. He emphasizes the importance of providing opportunities for students to dream, explore, communicate, and reflect, ensuring that schools serve as transformative spaces for growth and discovery.
As an advocate for educational innovation, Lorenzo is known for “thinking outside the box” and implementing forward-thinking strategies that benefit students both academically and socially. His leadership has consistently driven progress in urban education, fostering supportive and challenging environments where all students can thrive.
Lorenzo joined the 100 Black Men of Greater Cleveland in 2022, an organization committed to the empowerment and education of African American youth and fostering impactful community service. He is also a lifetime member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., where he contributes to mentorship and leadership development, reflecting his deep commitment to community service and advocacy.
